In 1983, Julian began his estate agency career with an independent company near the city of Milton Keynes. After spending a number of years with legendary British estate agency Ekins, Dilley & Handley (who became Prudential Property Services and then Woolwich Property Services), he moved quickly through the ranks to Area Manager while simultaneously taking a keen interest in personnel issues and staff training.
Julian soon became disillusioned with corporate life and in 2000 was invited to become a Partner with trailblazing company Thomas Morris – a firm that in 2001 went on to win the coveted Cendant Cup – and with it the accolade of the ‘Best Independent Estate Agent in the UK’. Thanks in part to the training and expertise of Julian, Thomas Morris went on to win an array of titles including ‘Top Referral Agent’ and a national ‘PR and Marketing Award’.
In 2010 the company won the highly prestigious ‘Independent Estate Agency Chain of the Year’ award at The Negotiator awards. In 2011 and 2012 they won a series of further awards including ‘Best Independent Estate Agent in the UK’ from the Relocation Agent Network twice in a row – a feat never previously achieved! There have been an array of industry awards since then including various Sunday Times accolades.
In 2002, alongside his estate agency interests, Julian established TM Training & Development who have coached and trained teams and individuals in numerous countries throughout Europe, including Italy, Spain, Wales, Scotland, South Africa and Germany. Julian was joined in 2007 by Peter Chapman – ex Managing Director of central London agency, Chestertons.
Julian is a highly regarded speaker at industry conferences and is invited to speak at a variety of events every year.
Julian is also a regular contributor to a number of the UK’s leading property publications (including Negotiator magazine and Property Industry Eye), providing inspiration to individual agents and businesses and has sat on numerous industry judging panels.
He delivers regular Rightmove webinars on a range of estate agency subjects.
His dedication and plain hard work was rewarded in December 2010 when TM training & development won the Sunday Times Gold Estate Agency Supplier of the Year award in London. The title was awarded for ‘….the quality of the training and consultancy services provided to estate agents throughout the UK’.
Peter trained as a teacher after leaving university in 1982, and after a couple of years decided that a career in Sales would be more rewarding and offer greater opportunities. After working initially in Business Systems, streamlining the processes used by companies to create maximum efficiencies, he became assistant training manager at Moore Paragon UK.
After this initial experience in sales Peter joined the Estate Agent Ekins Dilley and Handley at the point when they became the first 12 offices purchased by Prudential Property Services. Within 18 months Peter became Eastern Region Training manager responsible for staff training in over 240 offices. Following the acquisition of Prudential Property Services Eastern Region by the Woolwich, Peter became National Training Manager for the Woolwich before becoming Operation Director for four Regions of Woolwich Property Services.
In 1995 Peter became the Regional Manager for both the Woolwich Bank and Property Services in the Thames Valley and in 1997 Joined Chesterton’s Estate Agents in Central London as Managing Director of the Residential Sales and Lettings Division.
During his time at Chesterton’s, Peter led the expansion of New Developments both inside London and in key regional cities, and also reorganised the lettings side of the business to create a centralised Property Management Centre with 24 dedicated staff to manage properties and provide financial and tax support to Landlords.
In 2007, Peter became a Director of TM training & development as part of the successful expansion of the business. Having known Julian O’Dell for over 25 years, he knew they had a shared belief in practical, business focused training. Peter has been particularly involved in developing Consultancy and Lettings support within the business, and as a result has helped a number of companies win national awards for transforming their performance and results.
Peter says: “TM training & development has allowed us to bring our years of experience and industry knowledge to a wide audience throughout the country and to provide training and support to more companies than ever; something of which I am particularly proud.”
